Pauline McKinnon

In the eight years she was battling the crippling symptoms of anxiety, Pauline McKinnon searched endlessly for answers and in formation to no avail, leaving her feeling more alone and helpless. As a result, following her recovery, in 1983 she wrote her own story “In Stillness Conquer Fear” aiming to help and inform others in similar situations. Soon after the publication of her book, at the invitation of Dr Meares, she established the Stillness Meditation Centre and began to teach SMT to the public.

In Stillness Conquer Fear is now a ‘ classic’ with the 30th anniversary edition NOW released and is internationally recognised as a‘ first in raising public awareness of anxiety disorders.

“As I experienced and practiced stillness meditation more and questioned it less, I began to glimpse the right idea, and the experience itself became freer: the letting go of tension, the letting go of happenings around me, the pleasant feeling of deliberate effortless being, inwardly removed from distracting sounds, thoughts or memories. Soon, during meditation, I began to come upon a velvety stillness and an at-one-ness with my-self and my surroundings, very calm, very natural, a feeling that transcended discomfort of any kind. And an inner ‘ knowing’ of the essence of the stillness and strength of life evolved – something that had not been part of my everyday experience …”Pauline McKinnon, In Stillness Conquer Fear.

In 1990, with awareness of childhood issues and preventative health in mind, Pauline published Quiet Magicand Help Yourself and Your Child to Happiness, to assist children and their parents with anxiety and stress management. She conducted the first Pilot Program in a school environment and has created a teaching pack including audio CD’ s for children and adolescents. Her programs are used in some Australian schools.

  • In 2011 Pauline published “Living Calm in a Busy World”, a contemporary commentary on Dr Meares work explaining Stillness Meditation Therapy alongside other types of meditation.
